Site Update
Still sick but getting better. I cleaned things up a bit and added a links page. I made all of the banners except the Pure Art one. Some were simple screen grabs (heh heh, you can tell) and I put a wee bit more effort into a couple of them. They were fun to make and a good alternative to my old sick activity of reading Archie Digests. There is still room for more links and improvement so expect it to be updated regularly.

I believe it's nap time for me. But I'm going to try to stay awake long enough to watch WMAC Masters. I don't know what it is, but it looks like a cheesy live action martial arts competition. Oh how I love Saturday mornings!

I've Been Sick.
I managed to get a nasty sinus cold and sore throat in summer. Go me. Anyway, looks like I might have the weekend offa work so if I don't sleep the weekend away, I'll have time to clean my house and fix up the site a bit more. I'm delighted that I'm learning new things everyday.

Illustration of Baby. By Dean Welsh

There is an odd hush in the house now, with the fish tank off.
Our fish, Baby, died suddenly early yesterday morning.
He was a beautiful vibrant yellow to orange gradient coloured platy.
We've had him since birth.
He was the runt of the litter and he was only half the size of his mother when he died.
He seemed to have lived a healthy life otherwise.
He just turned two.
I miss him.

Renovations
Hi. Well, as you can tell, my website is going through some changes. Dean is teaching me html stuff so I don't have to rely on the blogger template. I'm pretty impressed how he's simplified my site and got rid of a swack of useless tags that used to be here. So things are going to be a bit messy here since I'm tired and sick (being sick in August sucks by the way) and learning this interweb mumbo jumbo.

I also just got my laptop back today but it seems like the firewire port suddenly stopped working! Boo! I might have to take it back AGAIN! *sigh* They might as well replace the whole damn thing AGAIN (yes, this machine has been replaced once already).

Oop! I Didn't Update My Blog In a Couple of Days Now.
Just to catch up:

Friday: Dean and I went to Hawrelak Park to listen to the Edmonton International Blues Festival. It was a pretty nice night there except for the stupid concession stand closed their hot food service an hour and a half early and Dean got a bug in his eye that took about 5 (looong) minutes to get out. Plus there are these tiny little bug thingees that seem to like Dean's shirt. We had to cover him up. The music was good but the night was a tad cold.

On our way home from the park, we went through Whyte Ave and the Edmonton Fringe Festival was on (used to be fun and somewhat artsy but now it feels all commercial and became a social event for yuppies to be seen and subwoofered cars to cruise). We looked out the window at some crazy souped up sports car and the frat boys inside were all stylin' and they had used blacklight for the interior of the car!! So these morons in their white t-shirts honestly looked like they thought they were the best things to come along since ummm... Ikea. This goth girl on the bus was like "Oh my God! look at those retards!" and I was like "Haha!! They think they're cool". So everyone at the bus had a good laugh.

Saturday: Dean, my siblings Suzette and Sam and I went to see Mars at the Odesseum Odyssyum Odysium Edmonton Space and Science Centre but I think what stole the show was that they had a telescope pointing at The Ring of Nebula. That was really cool! Oh, and Westworld called and my laptop is FINALLY ready! About time!

Meet Jill Valentine
image from the Resident Evil: Apocalypse "blog" http://www.insideresidentevil.com/Secrets

Jill Valentine is played by Sienna Guillory, who wasn't in anything I've heard of, but I don't watch a lot of movies anyway. The movie is being filmed in Toronto.

Big Mother is Watching
Sorry, not much here today but a brief letter to my brother Stanley who went on vacation today.

posted for Stan
Mom phoned me around 9:30. She's asking me if you called me because you haven't called her back yet. I said I talked to you. And then she was asking me if you were with Tony or who and what and I was like AARGH!!

So she changed topics to Keeley's movements. She's asking "Is she there now?" "What is she doing?" etc etc so I finally got fed up and said "Mom, why do you keep asking me? I don't know! Why don't you just get a spycamera instead?" And Mom was like "AH GEEZ! I DON'T NEED A SPY CAMERA!! I WAS JUST ASKING!" And then she hung up on me. By the way, you can leave me comments in my blog if that's easier than e-mail.

24 Hours of Live "Fair & Balanced"-ness
I changed the title of my Blog for the time being to "Fair & Balanced & Accurate" to join in the hundreds of people on BLAH3.com. If you don't know the deal, Fox is suing Penguin Publishing and Al Franken because Fox has trademarked the term "Fair & Balanced" which Franken is using in the title of his new book.

By the way, the lights are back on in New York City and they got more than they bargained for. According to Foxnews, when the lights turned on, New Yorkers looked up in the sky and saw that the World Trade Center had rebuilt itself in the darkness. To see the miracle, check out this screen grab of foxnews.com.

Note to Fox: When using stock photos of NYC and trying to pass them off as a current photo, please remember the Twin Towers are NOT there anymore.

I Have a Logo Now!
Zowie! A Logo! Now I need something like...ooohhhh... content, don't I?

Since this is a blog and I can tell you what I did today. I sat on my bum and flatted all day. Oh, and there was a sales person at the door for Domino's Pizza! Sales person for Pizza? What the heck?? Just drop the coupons in my mailbox and go. I'm not sure what the deal was, but I think if you buy the coupons you get more than your money's worth back. I tried to explain to this guy that I really don't like pizza and that I really don't like take out Pizza. He was telling me that I can save time if I take out Pizza. Hello? I said "no". So he said "what if you have unexpected guests?" and I said "then we wouldn't eat Pizza". He finally left. Sheesh.

If you read Dean's Blog, then you already know that Dave McCaig was interviewed by Comic Book Resources about Superman Birthright. Okay, you read about colouring with Dave. I better get back to my flats.

Justice League
I've been reading Formally Known as the Justice League almost everyday now. There's only two issues out but it's THAT GOOD! It is funny. It is light-hearted. And so entertaining! Aside from reuniting the old writers and art team (Giffen & DeMatteis, Maguire & Rubenstein), they brought back Bob Lappan! He's the letterer and probably one of the few hand letterers still around. I was so afraid they go with digital lettering, so I'm happy with the decision to go with the letterer that actually made me notice lettering.

The other neat thing about the new Justice League series, is the colouring. It is computer coloured now, but Lee Loughridge has kept the "computer" look to a minimal. Sure there is the odd "colour hold" (manipulating the black ink like with Captan Atom). This "toon shaded" look to the book works really well with the art and the fact that this book is completely nostalgic to the old 80's Justice League series.

This post makes me think I should make a glossary of terms for colouring.

My Computer is in the Shop Again!
Maybe they'll fix it this time. Long story short, the laptop thinks the battery is always dead. So I can't use it unless I plug it in, which defeats the purpose of the portability of a laptop. So no computer for at least a week! Booo!!! And that means I can't post my San Diego photos that are on it yet! Boooo!!!

Funny thing happened to me on the Newsarama message board:
Someone started a "Why do you hate Rob Liefeld" thread. I decided I'd defend Rob. I don't hate him. I took some of the arguments of why someone hated Rob Liefeld and applied it to Marvel. And then I explained that the same reasons this person hated Liefeld sorta applies to others in the comic industry. And then some Marvel Zombie told me to "Shut the F*** Up!" Well, someone is a bit sensitive today. Sheesh!

The Colour Wheel
Feeling bad about not buying any cool art supplies for myself in the States, I bought a colour wheel of web safe colours. My entire trip home was spent spinning the wheel to see the pretty colours and their six digit designation. It has the RGB equivilents on it too! WOW!! Colour picking for web designing has never been more fun! I went to the website and I found out there is a CMY colour wheel too!! Yes, I have nothing much to say today.

Stupid Flash Spam!
I hate sites that use Flash.
I don't mind it when used for Flash Cartoons ("Strongbad E-mail" is about the only reason Flash should exist), that I understand. But when I'm ordering a Pizza... good lord! Don't put information sites in Flash. Don't put store sites in Flash. Its lame, its not necessary, its stupid, it loads like crap, it doesn't work half the time, it is time consuming and makes me not want to buy from you ever!

I also hate spam (who doesn't?).

I get spam once a week from a web design place about adding Flash to my website! The spam went to an e-mail account that doesn't exist@comicbookgirl.com because usually the host ends up getting the spam if you put in anything@the_url.com (get it?)

I promise everyone that I will have a Flash free website!

So Hot!
I'm melting! There is nothing hotter than sitting in an non-air conditioned house in a record-breaking summer weekend with a laptop on your legs. For the moment, instead of buying any new tech toys, I wish Dean would bring home an air conditioning unit. Maybe I'll give myself a mini-vacation this week and go to Ikea for food, fun, shopping and an air conditioned enviroment!
