When I heard Belinda Stronach crossed the floor, I just knew the sexist comments would flood in. I hate how predictable some conservative types can be and it angers me.
Check out Conservative Medicine Hat MP Monte Solberg's blog.
Specifically these two entries:
May 17, 2005: "What do you get for the girl who has everything?" Solberg doesn't even use her name once and almost entirely only refers to her as "girl".
May 18, 2005: "Belinda Stronach of no fixed address" Solberg continues to refer to her as a girl, but uses her name this time. And only calls her a woman to say "It is a woman's prerogative to change her mind" and then attempts to soften it up by adding "and I support her right to do that".
And the Conservative Media is no better with their gender swipes:
- The corporate right-wing National Post says: BLONDE BOMBSHELL
- The blue collar right wing Edmonton Sun goes for the more crude: CHEAP TRICK
And by coincidence, after I thought about making this entry, I found this report on CBC's website:
Sexism cited in reaction to Stronach move
Frankly it disgusts me and with antics like these, I'm not surprised that the Conservatives can't gain more than one percent support even in light of the Sponsorship Scandal.
UPDATE The Liberal women's caucus is demanding an apology from anyone who made sexist or misogynist remarks. Full article on CTV.ca ~ Thanks Suzette!

How pathetic to go after conservatives as sexists in light of whats happened. She is a polical whore, who sold her body (and vote) for a cozy cabinet position that she isn't even qualified for. No, running daddy's empire, doesn't make you qualified. There should be laws against crossing the floor, you should have to remain an independent as others have done, because this just strenches of the corruption that we all already know exists within the liberal party. This is BLATENT come over and I've got a position for you, this is corruption at it's worst. No other democratic country would put up with this blatent corruption, but passive Canadians will, even in the wake of the sponsorship scandal. It is pathetic that Martin is still in power, there should have been rioting in the streets until a much deserved resignation was offered by Martin. He was finance minister at the time, so you have 2 choices:
1) He knew about it and is lying through this teeth (the most likely)
2) He is incompetent, because it was his job to know about it
Either way, he should be out on his ass, and passive Canadians should be furious right now, especially now that we've seen him BLATENTLY buy an extention. Stronach is a political whore, and I would say the same if the same situation arose with a man, it has nothing to do with their sex.
I will NEVER vote liberal again.

Guess what? I didn't vote for the Liberal either. I've always hated Paul Martin. And I agree that people should sit as an independent if they leave a party. But one year ago, we knew about the sponsorship scandal, and as far as I'm concerned Canadians kept them in office knowing about it, so we should be punished and at least sit through the entire Inquiry. Too bad, so sad.
But I have always disliked all the sexism in politics and the news media. And I don't feel pathetic or ashamed to criticize the Conservative party for what they have been saying and how they have been acting towards Stronach. It is uncalled for behavour and poor criticism. Acceptance of such actions will just put us back to the middle ages. That, my friend, is the issue at hand for my post.
My apologies, I had to edit my last post. I hate it when I make grammar errors and I don't know if I can edit it without deleting it. @_@

We shouldn't have to sit through an entire term, when the corruption is exposed, we should be DEMANDING an apology for lying, followed by a resignation. Don't forget, he put a publicity ban on it until after the election, how convenient.
If you honestly don't believe that there is sexism within ALL the parties, you should get you head out of the sand, or wherever else it's stuck. It doesn't matter if it's a man, woman, dog, moose, if you sell your body for money and power, you are a whore. That's exactly what she did, that cabinet position was offered in advance, GUARAN-DAMN-TEED. Acceptance of her actions will set us back to dictatorship, where the government can do whatever it wants. How Canadians put up with his crap is beyond me, we should be ready to burn down parliament, Martin would have been forced to resign in almost every other democratic nation in the world, Canadians are either too passive or ignorant, these days I'm not even sure which it is.
